SCDOT Announces Federal Transit Administration Discretionary Grant Awards
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking comment from the public on projects  in McCormick County and the City of Seneca receiving funding from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Section 5309 Bus Livability  and State of Good Repair discretionary grant programs prior to their consideration for inclusion into  the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), respectively.

McCormick County Senior Services will receive $18,000 in FFY 2012 Section 5309 (State of Good Repair) funds for purchase of capital equipment (fareboxes) in support of its rural transit services. The agency will install fare collection boxes to its vehicles in order to reduce the transit driver’s handling, processing or making change for passengers.  The use of these fareboxes will provide an additional level of control for the agency’s financial cash management.   A copy of the proposal for this award may be reviewed by contacting:

The City of Seneca will receive $1,812,500 in FFY 2012 Section 5309 (Bus Livability) funds for vehicle acquisition in support of its rural transit services.  With funding provided by this grant for the purchase of two fast-charge battery electric buses, Seneca will be able to provide a needed student transit route.  The City of Seneca, through a contract with Clemson Area Transit (CATBUS), currently provides three fare-free transit routes: a business circulator route and residential circulator route provide transit service around town; while an express service links Seneca to the City of Clemson, four colleges, the Amtrak station, and the Electric City Transit system in Anderson.  Seneca also provides a dedicated fare-free service from Highpointe, a residential and student housing complex, to Clemson University. SCDOT Announces Repairs To I-526 Bridges Over Wando River in Charleston County
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking public comment for a proposed amendment to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) that involves repairs to the I-526 Bridges over the Wando River in Charleston County.

SCDOT’s Bridge Maintenance Office has been monitoring continued bridge foundation scour at the bridges, just west of Mt. Pleasant.  Due to an increase in scouring of the foundation at three (3) pier locations of the east and westbound-lane bridges, the Department has moved to perform scour repairs in order to protect the foundations.

The work would be funded as part of the previously approved 2012-2013 Federal Aid Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program and is estimated to cost $1.5 million.
