Bridge over Little Creek in Lancaster County to be Replaced
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Maintenance Division plans to replace the bridge over Little Creek on S-29-94 (Home Twitty Road), approximately 3.8 miles northeast of the town of Heath Springs in Lancaster County.
As part of SCDOT’s routine Bridge Inspection Program, this bridge was rated structurally deficient. Due to the relatively low traffic volume, and to minimize the impact to property owners in the area, the road will be closed during this replacement. The road will be closed on Monday, Aug. 13. The estimated date of completion is Oct. 31.
The detour will include S-29-511 (Spirit Road), SC 522 (Rocky River Road), and S-29-60 (Earl Cauthen Road). The net detour length will be approximately 3.71 miles.
For more information, the public may contact District Maintenance Engineer Todd Cook at (803) 377-4155.

SCDOT Financial Report #48
This update is released by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) each week to report the agency’s current fiscal status and to highlight recent accomplishments of the agency.

SCDOT’s current financial status remains stable with a continued positive outlook.  Accordingly, SCDOT continues to process validated invoices in a timely manner.  The Comptroller General’s office has processed approximately $111 million in payments to SCDOT vendors, contractors and others so far in the month of July.  All debt service and South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank payments are current.

SCDOT’s cash position on June 30th which is the end of the fiscal year was very good.  In addition SCDOT has continued to prepare, submit and receive Federal Reimbursements during the fiscal year end closing process.  This has allowed SCDOT to maintain a strong cash position.  In the past the Federal Reimbursement process has been disrupted by the fiscal year end closing schedule which had a negative effect on available cash.  This year SCDOT has successfully completed two Federal Reimbursements in the month of July and expects to submit three Federal Reimbursements in the month of August.

Bridge over Big Brown Creek in Union County to be Replaced
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to replace the bridge over Big Brown Creek on S-44-86 (River Road) in Union County. This bridge qualifies for federal funding, is structurally deficient and has been approved by the SCDOT Commission for replacement.
The project was awarded to Saddlebrook Construction on June 12. Road S-44-86 (River Road) will be closed to through traffic and the contractor will begin work on July 30.  The estimated completion date is Jan. 25, 2013.  This date may vary due to unforeseen events.
Due to the relatively low traffic volume, and to construct this bridge on an expedited schedule, the road will be closed at the bridge site during the project and traffic detoured.  The detour will use S-44-389 (Neal Shoals Road), S-44-391 (Happy Valley Road), SC-49 (Lockhart Highway) and S-44-146 (Old Ferry Road).  The net detour length will be approximately 9.1 miles.
For more information, the public may contact Resident Construction Engineer Jeremiah Bradley at (803) 581-8008.

SCDOT Announces Improvements to Three Bridges Associated with the I-26 Rehabilitation Project in Lexington County
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking public comment for a proposed amendment to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) to include construction funding to improve three bridges associated with the I-26 Rehabilitation Project in Lexington County.

Interstate 26 is slated for rehabilitation from near US 378 at mile-marker 110.5 to US 21 at mile-marker 115.4 in the vicinity of West Columbia and Springdale.  To provide adequate clearance over I-26 and for any necessary approach work for the bridges, SCDOT proposes to replace the bridges at Leaphart Road (S-30) and Rainbow Road (S-365) and to raise the Old Dunbar Road (S-72) Bridge. It is anticipated that additional right-of-way will be required to implement improvements at these locations. Estimated construction costs for the improvements include:
·         Leaphart Road Bridge Replacement - $7.8 million in FY 2013
·         Rainbow Road Bridge Replacement - $6.0 million in FY 2014
·         Old Dunbar Road Bridge Raising  - $2.325 million in FY 2013
