Repair Work at Bridge over McAlpine Creek in Lancaster County

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Maintenance Division is repairing the bridge over McAlpine Creek on S-29-64 (Harrisburg Road), approximately 12.8 miles north of the Town of Van Wyck in Lancaster County.

As part of SCDOT’s routine Bridge Inspection Program, this bridge was rated as structurally deficient.  Due to the nature of the repair work and to minimize the impact to nearby property owners in the area, the road will remain closed during this repair.  The road was closed on May 3.  The estimated date of completion is June 21.

The detour uses S-29-42 (Barberville Road) in South Carolina as well as Providence Road, Lancaster Highway and Dorman Road in North Carolina.  The net detour length will be approximately .20 miles.

This structure is scheduled for replacement tentatively beginning in 2012 with an estimated completion date in 2013.  The new structure is to be built off of the current alignment allowing traffic to continue to use the existing structure during construction.
