SCDOT Seeks Public Comment

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking comment from the public on two proposals: I-26 express lane/widening project in Lexington/Richland counties and Interstate resurfacing improvements throughout the state.

The I-26 improvement includes the development of the environmental documentation and design elements for the overall project corridor to include the widening and interchange at I-26 and I-20.  The project concept involves the designation of an access controlled express lane using the existing inside travel lane for westbound I-26 beginning near the interchange with I-126 (Exit 108) extending to near St. Andrews Boulevard (Exit 106).  The proposed widening will extend from St. Andrews Boulevard to near US 176/Broad River Road (Exit 101).  $8.5 million has been identified for Fiscal Year 2011.  The construction of the project will be advanced based on available funding.

The Interstate resurfacing improvements will involve the use of Open Grade Friction Coarse (OGFC) asphalt to protect the pavement structure and improve traction during wet weather conditions.  Interstate resurfacing projects will be determined on a priority basis. $12.0 million has been identified for Fiscal Year 2011 and $11.0 million for Fiscal Year 2012.

A copy of these proposals is available for public review on the world web at:
