Public Meeting Tuesday, May 4, in Florence County Concerning Proposed SC 51 (Pamplico Highway) Widening

The South Carolina  Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Tuesday, May 4, concerning the proposed widening of SC 51, beginning at S-57 (Claussen Road) near Florence, and ending at US 378 (East Myrtle Beach Highway) near S-225 (Sandpit Road).

The meeting will be between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hannah-Pamplico Elementary/ Middle School Cafeteria, 2131 S. Pamplico Hwy., Pamplico.  The meeting will have a drop-in format with displays for viewing.  A formal presentation will not be given during this time. However, a public hearing will be held at a later date, at which time a brief presentation will be given and citizens will have the opportunity to make verbal comments immediately following.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide information and solicit feedback from area residents concerning the project. Another purpose is to gather information from the public or any interested organization, on historic or cultural resources in the area.  Representatives of SCDOT will be available to answer questions.

This project is the fifth priority of six major road improvements in Florence County being funded through a combination of Local Option Sales Tax and State Transportation Infrastructure Bank funds.
