I-385 Traffic Shift for Southbound Motorists Begins April 25

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) advises motorists of the upcoming traffic shift for southbound traffic to the newly rehabilitated northbound side of Interstate 385 in Laurens County beginning April 25 at 6 p.m.

The traffic shift is required so SCDOT’s contractor can begin rehabilitation of the southbound side of I-385.

The crossover taking southbound traffic across the median to the northbound side is between SC Route 92 and SC Route 101.  Southbound traffic will remain on the northbound side of I-385 until just north of the US Route 221 interchange where it will cross over the median and back onto the southbound side of I-385.

During this stage of construction southbound traffic will not be able to use exit 10 (Metric Road). The ramp to Metric Road will remain closed during this traffic shift phase, which will be in effect until late July.  However, southbound motorists will be able to use the US Route 221 exit as they will be shifted back on the southbound side prior to the exit.

The I-385 rehabilitation project, which began this past winter, is from mile point 0 at the I-385/I-26 interchange and extends north on I-385 for approximately 15 miles. Motorists are still able to use northbound I-385 beginning at SC route 92, exit 16.

The project, which includes improvements to both northbound and southbound directions, is on schedule and expected to be completed Aug. 15, 2010. SCDOT’s contractor is working seven days a week and will be adding additional workers in coming months.
