“Safety Rest Break” August 31 for I-77 Motorists Awareness Program Kicks Off Labor Day Weekend

Motorists who stop at the SC Welcome Center in Fort Mill along Interstate 77 on Friday, Aug. 31, will be offered free refreshments and safety brochures and can have their tire pressures checked – something that could save their lives.


The Labor Day Weekend “Safety Rest Break” is aimed at increasing safety awareness and encouraging motorists to take a rest break, refreshing themselves mentally and physically before continuing to drive in the typical heavy holiday traffic.


The Safety Rest Break will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


The Safety Rest Break is a joint effort between the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), Michelin of North America, AAA of the Carolinas, SC Trucking Association, SC Department of Public Safety, SC Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, MADD and the Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging.


Motorists who stop can: (1) get the air pressure checked in their tires and receive a free tire pressure gauge; (2) have their child safety seats checked; (3) receive soft drinks (4) get free literature on highway safety and other educational material; and (5) get travel directions.
