“Safety Rest Break” Friday, June 29, for I-85 Motorists

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announces the Fourth of July “Safety Rest Break” will be held Friday, June 29, at the SC Welcome Center in Fairplay, SC, at the I-85 SC/GA border from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Fourth of July “Safety Rest Break” is aimed at increasing safety awareness and encouraging motorists to take a rest break, refreshing themselves mentally and physically before continuing to drive in the typical heavy holiday traffic. We are in the heart of the “100 Deadliest Days” on our highways.

The Safety Rest Break is a joint effort by the SCDOT, Federal Highway Administration, South Carolina Department of Public Safety, South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, AAA of the Carolinas and Michelin North America.

Motorists who stop can get the air pressure checked in their tires. They can also receive free snacks, state highway maps, literature on highway safety and travel directions.
