“Safety Rest Break” Friday, May 25, for I-85 Motorists

The Memorial Day Weekend “Safety Rest Break” will be held Friday, May 25, at the SC Welcome Center in Blacksburg at the I-85 SC/NC border from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.


The Memorial Day Weekend “Safety Rest Break” is aimed at increasing safety awareness and encouraging motorists to take a rest break, refreshing themselves mentally and physically before continuing to drive in the typical heavy holiday traffic. Memorial Day Weekend begins the “100 Deadliest Days” on our highways.


The Safety Rest Break is a joint effort by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, South Carolina Department of Public Safety, South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, MADD of South Carolina, AAA of the Carolinas, SC Trucking Association and Michelin North America.


Motorists who stop can get the air pressure checked in their tires. They can also receive free snacks, state highway maps, free literature on highway safety and travel directions.
