Lane Restriction for Truck Traffic on I-526 Westbound at the Wando River Begins Sunday Evening, November 5

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will restrict truck traffic to the right lane of the westbound bridge of I-526 at the Wando River beginning Sunday evening, November 5, 2017. The shifts are required as SCDOT continues testing and inspection on the Wando River Bridge.

In early 2017, SCDOT replaced a damaged cable that was discovered during a routine inspection. The cables used in this bridge design are located beneath the deck.  Following the replacement of this single, damaged cable, SCDOT issued a contract to inspect and test the remaining cables in both the east and westbound bridges.  This was initiated to ensure the long term safety and health of this vital bridge structure.

The inspection and testing are expected to take at least 90 days to complete. The truck lane restriction will be in place until the work is completed.

While this work will primarily be conducted below the bridge deck, SCDOT urges motorists to use caution when approaching, moving through and leaving the work zone.
