The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting for the proposed bridge replacement of S-51 (Camp Creek Road) over Gills Creek in Lancaster County. The meeting will have a drop-in type format with displays for viewing and citizens will have the opportunity to provide written comments. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at South Middle School 1551 Billings Drive, Lancaster.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity to review and discuss individually with representatives from SCDOT the proposed S-51 (Camp Creek Road) bridge replacement over Gills Creek. The purpose of this project is to improve safety of the creek crossing by correcting the structural and functional deficiencies of the existing bridge. The type of replacement bridge, as well as, design alternatives and the most appropriate and effective method for maintaining traffic during construction is still being evaluated up to and including closing the bridge and detouring traffic. Another purpose of the meeting is to gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area. Personnel from SCDOT will be available to answer questions and discuss the project with interested citizens on an individual basis.
