The news conference will begin at 11 a.m. in front of SCDOT Headquarters, 955 Park St. Columbia.
This year's National Work Zone Awareness Week occurs as SCDOT mourns the recent deaths of two employees from a hit-and-run crash in Aiken County.
Scheduled speakers included SCDOT Commission Chairman Woodrow "Woody" W. Willard Jr.; Chaplain Steve Shugart of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division; Federal Highway Administration SC Division Administrator Emily O. Lawton; Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall; a representative from Carolinas Associated General Contractors (CAGC); and South Carolina Highway Patrol Captain Gil Owens.
National Work Zone Awareness Week is organized by an executive committee comprised of representatives from the Federal Highway Administration, American Traffic Safety Services Association and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
