Wide Load Restriction on I-95 Southbound near Santee Beginning Monday, March 27, 2017

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will begin a wide load restriction Monday, March 27, 2017, on a portion of Interstate 95 southbound in Clarendon County.

The restriction is necessary due to contract maintenance and repair work on the southbound bridge over Lake Marion near Santee. Note: Northbound I-95 traffic will not be impacted by this repair project.

The project includes:

  • Replacing the concrete approach slabs.
  • Painting all of the steel underneath the bridge.
  • Installing guardrail along the bridge railings.
  • Resealing all bridge deck joints.
  • Repairing concrete issues on the deck.

During this phase of the work no loads wider than 10 feet will be allowed to pass, but will be required to exit at Exit 119 of I-95 and follow the detour signs leading east on SC 261. This restriction will remain in place through May 2017 when the restriction will be revised.

For more information, the public may contact SCDOT's Jim Porth at (803) 531-6850.
