SCDOT Takes Measures to Mitigate Traffic on I-526

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is taking extra measures to assist in mitigating traffic congestion on I-526 in the vicinity of the Port of Charleston's Wando Terminal in Mount Pleasant.

SCDOT has coordinated these efforts with the Governor's Office, Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page, the State Ports Authority, and the SC Department of Public Safety. SCDOT local traffic engineers are working closely with Mt. Pleasant Chief of Police Carl Ritchie on traffic control plans along Long Point Road.
SCDOT will be posting port gate instruction messages on electronic message boards placed along sections of I-526 and I-26 to assist truckers as they approach the terminal.

In addition, SCDOT will have SHEP Responders patrolling the area to assist with traffic flow.

SCDOT urges all motorists to use caution when approaching I-526 in Mount Pleasant and anticipate possible traffic congestion.
