Section of I-95 Southbound Remains Closed in Jasper County Due to Flooding Additional roads also closed in Jasper County 11 PM Update

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) reports that a section of Interstate 95 southbound in Jasper County remains closed Sunday afternoon, May 29, 2016, due to flooding from Tropical Depression Bonnie. I-95 northbound is open at this section.

The closure is in the area of mile marker 22 near the towns of Ridgeland and Yemassee. 

The following detour has been put in place: I-95 southbound detour exit 28: right off exit ramp, right on Nuna Rock Rd, left on SC 462 (Morgandollar Rd), left on US 278, to I-95 soundbound exit 18.

Law enforcement officers and SCDOT crews are on site along the detour route to help manage traffic flow. I-95 is experiencing backups in both directions. Motorists may want to consider alternate routes.

The following roads in Jasper County have been closed due to flooding as of Sunday afternoon:

·         I-95 at exit 22 closed - water crossing road near exit 23

·         US 17 near I-95, Exit 22

·         Old House Road (SC 336) closed from Bees Creek (S-13) to Low Country Drive (Cooler Store)

·         Tarboro Road (S-22) closed from Lynch Ford Road (S-14) to Malphrus Road (S-39)

·         Frontage Road (S-425) closed

·         Sisters Ferry Road (S-55) closed

·         Calf Pen Bay Road (SC 652) closed from Grays Highway (US 278) Cypress Branch Road (US 601)

Five SCDOT crews are working these locations and will remain on site through the night, as well as along I-95, until the water recedes.

SCDOT urges motorists to stay off the roads in these areas if possible and do not drive around barricades where roads are flooded and closed.​
