Section of I-95 Southbound Remains Closed in Jasper County Due to Flooding Additional roads also closed in Jasper County

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) reports that a section of Interstate 95 southbound in Jasper County remains closed Sunday afternoon, May 29, 2016, due to flooding from Tropical Depression Bonnie. All lanes of I-95 northbound is open at this section.

The closure is in the area of mile marker 22 near the towns of Ridgeland and Yemassee.

The following detour has been put in place: I-95 southbound detour exit 28: right off exit ramp, right on Nuna Rock Rd, left on SC 462 (Morgandollar Rd), left on US 278, to I-95 soundbound exit 18. 

Law enforcement officers and SCDOT crews are on site along the detour route to help manage traffic flow. I-95 is experiencing backups in both directions. Motorists may want to consider alternate routes.

The following roads in Jasper County have been closed due to flooding as of Sunday afternoon:

·         I-95 at exit 22 closed - water crossing road near exit 23

·         Great Swamp Road closed from S-39 to S-14 – Road Washed Out

·         SC 462 and Riceshire 19 from Cooler Store to I-95 –closed (water on road)

·         Intersection US 278 Grays Highway  and SC 652 Calf Pen Bay Road – SC 652 closed (water on road) US 278 Open

·         SC-462 closed from Exit 28 south easterly to SC-336

·         SC-336 main street in Ridgeland closed from the 8.34 milepoint  to 8.40 milepoint due to flooding

·         US 17 closed in the vicinity of mile marker 21 at I-95.

Six SCDOT crews are working these locations and will continue to remain on site, as well as along I-95, until the water recedes.

SCDOT urges motorists to stay off the roads in these areas if possible and do not drive around barricades where roads are flooded and closed.
