The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announces the emergency closure of the right outside lane on I-85 northbound near mile marker 77 in Spartanburg County due to a concrete slab failure on the road surface. The other two northbound lanes will remain open during repairs.
Motorists are advised to expect congestion, use caution in the work zone and to consider alternate routes.
The repair work is being done in an existing work zone where a contractor has been working at night to replace concrete slabs to improve the condition and safety of the interstate highway.
SCDOT has contacted the contractor to mobilize this afternoon as soon as possible to begin repairs and work into the night. Nighttime lanes closures have been occurring in Spartanburg County over the past three weeks and will continue for the next couple of weeks.
