The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) plans to issue a new contract to rehabilitate and resurface a stretch of Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County after initial work revealed issues with the underlying pavement.
The existing asphalt pavement on the project, from mile marker 56 to 68, was found to be too deteriorated after initial milling was performed. This will require engineers to re-evaluate this section of roadway and the current contract stopped. It is the best interest of taxpayers to have contractors competitively bid on the new scope of work in a new contract.
Work will resume on this section of roadway after a revised scope is developed. Any material that has been placed and paid for on this project will remain and be incorporated into the new project currently scheduled to be let in late summer of 2015.
