Public Comment Sought For Development of Corridor Management Plans for Sections of Interstate Routes in Seven Counties

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking comment from the public to amend the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) to include the development of Corridor Management Plans for sections of six Interstate Routes in seven counties.

The Corridor Management Plan will involve studies that will lay out a 30-year framework for improvements and economic sustainability on the following corridors:

I-20/I-26/I-126/I-77 in Lexington and Richland Counties

  • I-26 from Columbia Avenue (Exit 91) to US 21/US 176( Exit 119)
  • I-126 from I-26 to Huger Street
  • I-20 from SC 204( Exit 51) to White Pond Road(Exit 87)
  • I-77 from I-26 (Exit 1) to SC 34 (Exit 34)

I-85 in Anderson, Greenville and Spartanburg Counties

  • I-85 from US 29 (Exit 34) to US 25 (Exit 44)
  • I-85 from US 29 (Exit 66) to SC 110 (Exit 83)

I-26 in Charleston and Berkeley Counties

  • I-26 from Jedburg Road (Exit 196) to US 17 (Exit 221)

The Corridor Management Plan will establish plans of action to address the corridors' existing and anticipated traffic volume and associated congestion. Each plan will take into account the regions' economic development and the existing environmental restrictions of the surrounding area. A well-designed congestion management process will provide an effective method to manage new and existing facilities through the development and implementation of Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Strategies; Alternate Mode Strategies; Traffic Operational Projects and Programs, and Capacity Improvements.
