SCDOT Seeks Public Comment for Construction Funding
For I-85 (Greenville County) and I-526 (Charleston County) Projects
 
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking public comment for a proposed amendment to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) that would increase and add construction funding for improvements to sections of Interstates 85 and 526 in Greenville and Charleston counties, respectively.  
 
·         I-85 (Greenville County) - Convert the I-85/Laurens Road Interchange and widen the interstate’s northbound mainline lanes from the collector-distributor entrance to the Laurens Road Exit. SCDOT proposes to increase construction funding to accommodate the mainline widening. Project funding and schedule information are as follows:
                                                (Preliminary Engineering (PE) cost estimated at $ 2 Million in FY 2014)
                                                (Right-of-way cost estimated at $500,000 in FY 2016)
                                (Construction cost estimated at $11 Million in FY 2017)
                                (Construction cost estimated at $11 Million in FY 2018
 
·         I-85 (Greenville County) – Widen the interstate’s north and southbound mainline lanes from Pelham Road to SC 14/Aviation Boulevard, and improve the acceleration and deceleration lanes at the SC 14 interchange. SCDOT proposes to add funding for the construction phase of the project. Project funding and schedule information are as follows:                       
(Preliminary Engineering (PE) cost estimated at $3.3 Million in FY 2014)
                                        (Construction cost estimated at $33.2 Million in FY 2017)
 
·         I-526 (Charleston County) – Create a “Diverging Diamond Interchange” at the I-526/International Boulevard Interchange to guide and safely separate opposing traffic as it moves through the interchange. SCDOT proposes to increase construction funding for the project. Project funding and schedule information are as follows:
            (Construction cost estimated at $37.6 Million in FY 2018)
(Construction cost estimated at $37.6 Million in FY 2019)
