Updates on US 501 Northbound, 3rd Avenue South Widening Projects

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) provides the following monthly update on two highway widening projects in the Myrtle Beach area:

US 501 Northbound Widening:

  • Nightly lane/shoulder closures can be expected 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday
  • Clearing operations will be ongoing
  • Drainage will be installed along the length of the project
  • Utilities will be performing relocation work
  • Work is expected to continue through the end of 2014

3rd Avenue South Widening:

  • Lane closures can be expected daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Drainage will continue to be installed between US 501 and Broadway Street
  • Curb and gutter, sidewalk and driveways will be installed between US 501 and Broadway Street
  • Utilities will be performing relocations
  • Traffic signal upgrades will be performed at the intersection of Broadway Street and US 501
  • Work is expected to continue through the end of 2015

Motorists should use caution in work zones and observe posted traffic control signs, directions from flaggers and reduced speed limits.
