The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has posted weight limits on a bridge in the Simpsonville area of Greenville County because of the bridge's deteriorating condition.
Signs have been posted at the bridge over the Reedy River on West Georgia Road (Secondary 272) limiting vehicle weight to 2 tons per axle and 3 tons gross, which is the lowest posting before closure. This generally allows only passenger cars and lightweight trucks.
The bridge is located approximately 3 miles north of I-385 and near the Greenville Technical College Brashier campus. West Georgia Road at this location has an average daily traffic of 14,200 vehicles.
Upon a routine inspection by SCDOT, two cracks were found in the deck panels on the bridge's approach spans. The agency is exploring various repair options and a time frame is not known at this point.
