SCDOT Identifies Seven Projects for FY 2013 Transportation Alternatives Program

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is seeking comment from the public on seven (7) projects identified for the Fiscal Year 2013 Transportation Alternatives Program.

Formerly known as the Transportation Enhancement Program, the Transportation Alternatives Program is a federally funded program that is administered by SCDOT and provides local governments an opportunity to pursue non-traditional transportation related activities such as pedestrian facilities, bicycle facilities and streetscaping.

 

Projects proposed to receive FY 2013 Transportation Alternatives Program funding include:

 

  • Town of Aynor - Pedestrian Streetscape Improvements Phase III

    Project Cost: $484,042.12

    Project Description: Install ADA compliant sidewalks, crosswalks, handicap ramps, small landscaped medians, pedestrian scaled lighting, benches and bike racks along 8th Avenue (Highway 501). The project begins at North Main Street and ending at the intersection of South Main Street (east and west sides).

 

  • Francis Marion University – Francis Marion University Highway SC 327 Pedestrian Improvements

    Project Cost: $450,670.00

    Project Description: Install ADA compliant sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian signals, curb ramps, and minor landscaping along Francis Marion Road (SC 327). The project begins north of Alumni Drive and extending to the south of Patriot Drive.

     

  • Town of Glendale– Glendale Pedestrian Bridge (Submitted by Spartanburg County)

    Project Cost: $625,000.00

    Project Description: Rehabilitate the pedestrian bridge along Emma Cudd Road and Glendale Drive to include pedestrian scaled lighting.

 

  • Town of Latta – Main Street Pedestrian Streetscape Improvements

    Project Cost: $500,000.00

    Project Description: Install ADA compliant sidewalks, crosswalks, handicap ramps, minor landscaping, and pedestrian scaled lighting along SC Highway 917 (West Main Street). The project begins on West Main Street, from Marion Street (S-63) to Railroad Avenue (S-122) in Latta.

 

  • Anderson County – Jackson Street Sidewalk Phase I

    Project Cost: $500,000.00

    Project Description: Install ADA compliant sidewalks, curb and gutter and drainage along Jackson Street (S-0071). The sidewalk will begin at Westside High School driveway, to east of Hillside Drive.

     

  • City of Beaufort – Allison Road Pedestrian Connector

    Project Cost: $747,260.35

    Project Description: Install a multipurpose path and sidewalk to include ADA compliant sidewalks, curb and gutter, drainage, Mast Arms, and minor landscaping along Allison Road. The project begins on Allison Road at its intersection with Ribaut Road ending at the intersection of Rising Tide Drive.

     

  • Town of Bluffton – May River Road Pedestrian Infrastructure Extension

    Project Cost: $891,330.00

    Project Description: Install ADA compliant sidewalks, curb and gutter and, drainage along May River Road (SC 46). The project begins on Pin Oak and ends on both sides of Whispering Pines (S-583) with a continuation on the north side of SC 46 to Buck Island Road (S-29).

     

A summary of comments received during the comment period will be provided to the SCDOT Commission for consideration.
