The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) will be closing 0.3 miles of US 76 near North Rabon Creek for emergency road repairs. The repairs are located approximately 3.2 miles east of Neely Ferry Road in Laurens County. The road will be closed on July 1, 2013 and is expected to be reopened by August 14, 2013.
The closure is needed to repair three slope failures along the road which were caused by water intrusion within the embankment.
SCDOT has been closely monitoring the road's condition while conducting geotechnical investigations and exploring expedited repair options. Repairs will include permanent installation of metal sheeting to stabilize the embankments that support the roadway.
Detour signs will be installed prior to the closure and will use SC 252 to US 25. The net detour is approximately 31 miles. Alternate detour routes are available for local traffic. Questions regarding the emergency repairs can be directed to SCDOT's Customer Service Center at 855 GO-SCDOT (855-467-2368).
